Herrington shocks field, takes first Modified win at Brockville at age 16!
BROCKVILLE - It was teen night in Brockville. It wasn't a school dance or anything like that, it was race night at Brockville Ontario Speedway. The track's two major open wheeled classes were run and when the checkered flag fell a couple of 16 and unders were accepting the accolades in victory lane as Bobby Herrington of Sydenham and Napanee's Chris Raabe picked up the 358 Modified and DIRT Sportsman features respectively.
Herrington pulled the shocker of the season. The youngster picked up the lead from John Mulder on a lap 2 restart after a four car crash in turn four. Herrington dashed out to a lead as much as a full straightaway until a late caution bunched the field again. Now, Herrington had a slight issue to deal with multi time track champion Danny OBrien right on his tailpipe. OBrien finally got close on the final turn of the final lap pulling along side the teenager and his Sunshine Canyon-Stover Bus Lines Bicknell but Herrington won the drag race to the finish line for career Modified win number one. It makes him unofficially the youngest Modified feature winner in DIRT car history.
